The College of ACES Alumni Association hosted an ACES in Places event on June 18, 2019 at Engrained Brewery & Restaurant in Springfield, IL. Brent Schwoerer, owner and U of I alum, shared his vision for the restaurant and facility. Alumni and guests toured the brewery and enjoyed a wonderful farm to table meal. Dean Kim Kidwell shared an update on the College of ACES and Paul Stoddard gave an update on the Department of Ag and Consumer Economics. A wonderful evening celebrating our Illini and agricultural ties.

Tami Craig Schilling, B.S. '90 Ag Communications, was the College of Agricultural Consumer and Environmental Sciences Commencement speaker on Sunday, May 12, 2019. Tami serves as the Agronomy Knowledge Transfer Lead at Bayer Crop Science.
Tami encouraged students "You are to be the navigator of your own journey. Own it, be accountable for it and do with it what you may, but it's yours." Tami shared with students the company competencies of Bayer and how you can apply these to your life. They included:
Tami encouraged students to be part of the Illini network in the future. "Remember where you come from, appreciate the people that got you there."

Celebrate Food and Ag Day - Saturday, September 14, 2019
Celebrate Food and Ag Day (formally Salute to Ag Day) will be held prior to the football kick off at the Stock Pavilion from 8-11am. A great day celebrating agriculture and our Illini connections!
A breakfast buffet will be featured in the tent. Tailgate entrance passes (which includes buffet) are now available at http://go.aces.illinois.edu/CFAg. Game tickets are exclusively available through the Athletic Ticket Office.
Congratulations to Tina Veal, Director of Alumni Relations at the University of Illinois, for being elected the National Agricultural Alumni and Development Association (NAADA) Secretary for 2019-2021.
NAADA provides education, support and recognition for professionals and volunteers dedicated to expanding resources for advancing agriculture and related disciplines through land-grant and other colleges of agricultural sciences and partner programs.
Tina has served on the NAADA national Board as Education Chair from 2011-2013 and Membership Chair from 2009-2011 and as the Alumni Track Chair (2018-2019). Tina has been recognized with the NAADA Distinguished Founders Award and is a charter member of the NAADA Mulberry Society. Tina has received several other awards in relation to programming developed for the ACES Alumni Association.

Dr. Nicki Engeseth has been named to serve as the next head of the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN) in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, pending approval of the Board of Trustees on August 16, 2019.
During her 23-year career at the University of Illinois, Dr. Engeseth has successfully held several administrative positions including serving as interim head of FSHN on two occasions. She is a highly regarded researcher who has excellent publication and grant acquisition records. Dr. Engeseth is well known for being an excellent collaborator, which has resulted in her receiving two ACES Team Excellence Awards. In acknowledgement of excellence in teaching, Dr. Engeseth has received several campus and professional awards including the College of ACES Senior Award for Excellence in Teaching and the NACTA Teacher Fellow Award. She is a remarkable mentor and student advocate.
Dr. Anna Ball has been named to serve as the next Associate Dean of Academic Programs in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences at University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, pending approval of the Board of Trustees on August 16, 2019.
Dr. Ball will return to the place where her academic career began. She is an alum of ACES earning a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education in 1995. She then transitioned to the University of Missouri where she received a MEd and Ph.D. in Agricultural Education. She returned to the U of I in 2002 as an assistant professor, and was recruited by the University of Florida to become the Director of the Teaching Resource Center at University of Florida in 2006. She returned to the University of Missouri in 2008 where she has held several administrative positions including Department Chair, Director of the Center for Educational Innovations, and Faculty Fellow in the Office of the Provost.
Dr. Ball is a nationally recognized teacher with an excellent research portfolio focused on student-centered learning. She has excellent leadership experience and has successfully engaged in strategic planning, personnel management, and program evaluation. Dr. Ball’s career reflects her unwavering dedication to improving student experiences and supporting faculty development. She brings an external perspective to an institution she is familiar with, which will serve her well as she works closely with faculty, staff, and students to create to integrate new ideas and processes into academic programs.
Welcome home Dr. Anna Ball
Patrick Gavin joined the advancement team in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES) in May 2019 as Director of Development. Patrick’s professional career has revolved around major gift work, team management, and planned giving.
Prior to accepting this position, he was the Regional Chief Development Officer for the American Red Cross in the central and south Illinois region where he served as the relationship manager for some of their largest partners including individuals, corporations, and foundations. His primary responsibilities in ACES will be to lead the fundraising efforts for the Arboretum, the Department of Crop Sciences, and the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences.
Patrick is a graduate of Barry University where he studied sports management and business management. With his outstanding fundraising knowledge, connections and background, he is a great fit for the College of ACES. He will be located in the advancement suite at 203 Mumford.

Agronomy Day is a collaborative field day hosted by the Department of Crop Sciences in partnership with several academic units in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES). The 2019 Agronomy Day Program is packed with a wide range of topics and speakers this year. We will have seven tent tours with additional field demonstrations and sponsor booths.

We are thrilled to announce that construction started June 3 on the new Feed Technology Center at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, signaling a new era in animal nutrition innovation from the University of Illinois Department of Animal Sciences, campus, and industry partners.
